Our Year In Review: 2015
Published on 07/01/16
As we start a new year, we’re taking a look back at everything the e4education team got up to in 2015. Happy New Year!
In the first month of the year, we launched the e4education Academy, aiming to provide free resources and advice to schools. Since it’s launch 12 months ago, we’ve uploaded over 50 original guides, ranging from Ofsted checklists to search engine optimisation guides. We also predicted some big design trends for 2015 in January, including full screen navigation and video homepages.
In February we observed Safer Internet Day, sharing lesson plans on the e4education Academy for primary and secondary schools.
BBC School Report is a national event getting schools and students into journalism. If you want to take part in this years report day, your forms need to be sent to BBC School Report as soon as possible! We’ve got some handy resources on the e4education Academy already, helping you set up your school website to display the reports your students create. In March e4education also joined Instagram to share more about life in the e4education office, and the latest advancements in school website design. Follow us here.
Back in April, Google announced an update to their search algorithms, favouring mobile friendly websites as of April 21st. Dubbed ‘mobilegeddon’, the new algorithm could potentially downgrade non-responsive websites.
In April, we celebrated our 14th birthday! To commemorate the occasion, we posted some blog posts listing our top 14 reasons to use blogs, photography and prospectuses. We also released the second edition of our popular edutech hub magazine in April.
Several different departments make up e4education, and in May we introduced you to the production team - a team who supports the schools we work with. Find out more about the production team here.
Half way through 2015, we looked at more design trends that we’d picked up on during the year. Read more about them here.
In July, we looked at tips to help schools refresh their websites, including updating a headteacher’s welcome and including new photography.
Whilst schools were out, our design team were looking at different styles of typography, and how they can be used effectively on your school website.
As schools came back, we launched the third edition of our edutech hub magazine, which included articles on school open day promotion and the latest education and technology news. We also investigated who should be involved in your new website project in a blog post, which you can read here.
We love taking part in charity events at e4education, and this year our friends at Heart Radio asked us to wear something ‘loud’ to raise money for children’s charities.
We launch new school websites every month, and in November we launched the new – very colourful! - Varndean School website.
After months of hard work, we launched our updated School News App in December. Designed around your needs, the app also looks, and works, much better too! Interested in the app? You can find out more here.
