Work Experience 2019 - An Overview
Published on 25/06/19
After completing my first year studying English at Loughborough University, I spent two weeks at e4education. Previously, I had only worked in a small café and so the office environment was something that was quite daunting for me. However, I didn’t need to worry as the team at e4education made me feel very welcome from the outset!
During my time at e4education, I have gained insight into the workings of a company – how each department is so different, yet they work together and communicate amongst themselves to deliver a streamlined service. I have certainly learned that communication within a company is imperative to providing a quality service to customers, as well as making office life easier for everybody! At e4education the phones are constantly ringing between departments and across the office, which makes for a lively atmosphere.
I spent time in both the Marketing and Production teams, observing their day-to-day tasks and interaction with customers. Although I worked with these teams directly, I also managed to gain a sense of the other aspects of the company, such as the designers and the sales team. I hadn’t had any experience in an office environment before and so at e4education I have had invaluable experience that has allowed me to gain confidence in my own ability. This was both in situations I was used to, such as writing and editing work, but also in skills I have not had much experience with, for example answering phone calls from customers!
Over the course of two weeks, I have written two blog posts and constructed five academy resources for the e4education website; these were on a wide variety of subjects, such as most common school website mistakes, planning for your school website photography visit and writing the perfect Headteacher’s welcome.
Even though I am currently studying for an English degree and am very used to writing essays, the opportunity to test my writing skills in a completely different way was an interesting experience! To have work of mine published on the e4education website was very exciting for me, and I think it is a really valuable opportunity to have been given.
I am very grateful to have had this opportunity and would like to thank everybody at e4education for making my time so enjoyable!
A note from e4education:
We really enjoyed having Olivia come in and work with us for a fortnight. She was friendly, polite and hardworking with bags of enthusiasm and lots of determination. We wish her all the best for her second year of university and would definitely recommend that you check out the brilliant job she did writing blogs and resources for our Learning Zone:
