CMS Release Notes – April 2021

Published on 28/04/21

Our development team are always working behind the scenes to enhance and evolve our software solutions to benefit our schools and trusts.

This month we see some exciting updates to remote learning and our communications suite, as well as to some core content management system functionality.

Let’s see what the team have been up to this month:

Content Management System (CMS)

Our CMS is the feature-rich software behind all our school website designs. This month:

  • Our remote learning zone has been updated, allowing schools to share the Greenshaw remote learning content with parents and pupils who do not have internet access via a USB download. Watch our video to find out more

  • Remote Learning quizzes can now have much larger text answers – the previous limit of 200 characters has been removed.

  • A new calendar sync option has been added for Microsoft Outlook which will allow users to authorise the sync via OAuth. A calendar sync is a great way to keep your website calendar up to date automatically. If you’d like to find out more about this functionality, contact your Account Executive for more info!

  • We have replaced the old spell checker with Wproofreader. This update will allow you to spell check in 17 default languages and grammar check in 15.
    The languages available are:
    + American English
    + British English
    + Brazillian Portuguese
    + Canadian English
    + Canadian French
    + Danish
    + Dutch
    + Finnish
    + French
    + German
    + Greek
    + Italian
    + Norwegian Bokmal
    + Portuguese Spanish
    + Swedish
    + Ukranian

There are also 150 additional languages and specialised dictionaries, such as medical and legal available and you can add words that are specific to your field to a personal dictionary, to prevent that word being reported in the future.
Wproofreader is WAI-compliant up to WCAG 2.1 and Section 508 accessibility standards and all modern browsers are supported.

  • References to ‘username’ and ‘username / email address’ have been updated throughout the CMS and the additional modules to use ‘email address’, ‘login email address’ and ‘user account’ as appropriate.

  • We have added protection against multiple clicks of the form submission button to avoid duplication in form exports and submissions.

Communications Tools

Our suite of communication tools is extremely popular with schools and our updates are designed to make this functionality even more engaging.

  • School contact details can now be edited directly from the school settings rather than the app settings.

  • Additional templates have been added for the display of social media feeds. This will allow images to be displayed alongside the post as opposed to as a background image.

  • The columns issue when emailing newsletters has now been fixed.

  • Improved security checks have been added for users editing / deleting emails.

Bookings & Payments

Our booking functionality and payments have had a couple of updates this month too:

Parents' Evening Booking System

  • Parents’ evening slots which have been marked as unavailable can now have a reason set against the unavailability. This can be seen in the school’s own view.

  • Additional notes can be added to the parents’ evening and on individual slots. These notes will be public and displayed to the parents’, unlike the existing staff notes which are for internal use only.

  • The height issue on the ‘additional notes’ field has been resolved.

  • Wording has been updated on various parents evening messages.

Payments & E-Shop

  • The ‘total discounts’ heading will now only appear when discounts have been applied.

  • Registration is now permitted for non-UK postcodes.
